Another Year, Another Life

Irene Marie Cortez

My mom’s 57th birthday celebration last week was simple but extra special…

It was in those moments when our eyes were opened to the things that truly matter, but often taken for granted; they seem to lose their significance when we keep ourselves occupied with those we think are more important; money and more money; advancement in our career; the desire for power; taking care of our reputation.

Nevertheless, there comes a time when our lives inevitably make a sudden jolt which changes everything, and it may take away from us those things we thought we needed at the snap of a finger. We may feel like we’ve lost everything; but it is only during this time where life can remind us to go back to the basics; the love and support of our family through thick and thin; a few (or even rare) but loyal and trustworthy friends; our health and well-being; being grateful for all the blessings that we have. It is then when we will discover that we have more than enough.

That day marked a brand new beginning not only for my mom, but for all of us.

  1. Hi, Irene! ~

Such a lovely post! Looks like a MAGNIFICENT FEAST to honor your mother’s birthday! I’m jealous — makes me VERY hungry! ;-p

Beautiful photography, too! Your creative spirit shines through!

Ironically, my current blog post is also about family. We put a little different spin on the concept in my neck of the woods — hah!

What a WONDERFUL GIFT is YOUR HAPPY FAMILY — I’m glad to know you appreciate it!
